THE WATER PROJECT
The aim of the project was to bring a fresh water supply to the Kaiash Hostel as well as improve the existing supply to the local community. A total of US$ 10,000 was estimated to fund the project. Much of this was raised from the generous donations made by our supporters through www.globalgiving.org
AKIS SCHOOL – Dohar
The 12th grade children of the AKIS School in Dohar volunteered to assist with the water project as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award scheme as well as to raise funds. They raised a total of US$ 4000 for the project.
The children also participated in a 5 day trek in the Annapurna Himal.
Al Khor International School (AKIS) is a vibrant, fast growing school with privileged facilities. The school s located about 40 km away from Doha and houses about 4,000 residents from about 36 nationalities.
THE WORKThe children particpated along side our Kailash Hostel children in repairing and cleaning the existing water supply tanks and laying pipes new pipes. Cement had to be mixed and bricks had to be carried. The work was challenging and tiring for the students but everyone participated with vigour, humour and teamwork.
Some feelings and experiences gain by our children during water project & art craft work.
Dawa Gyalpo X:-I had a wonderful time working with the students of Al- International School of Qatar .Its been really good experience working with them. Although they didn’t have any experience of digging they did a good jog. Interacting with them was the close to their tradition and religion. We had fun, playing basketball and sharing Jokes.Lastly I would like to thank them for all the hard work and other things they did for us.
Nyima Wangdue IX: - The time that I spent with the Al-Khor Student was meant to be very memorable one to me .At first I thought that they would not socialize with us but I was wrong. They earned out to be very kind, generous, and hardworking and friendly at the same time! I was obliged to work with them. They were very co-operative and helpful. Only thing that surprised me was that they didn’t know how to dig. While working we chatted a lot. They shared information about their country and religion and I also did the same .Playing basketball with them was the most enjoyable one. I will never forget them and their great service to our hostel. Long live Al-Khor Student.
Thukten Lama VIII:-It was like a fun -work. I really had a wonderful time working with them.Now the project has been much beneficial for us. Working with them, I learned a lot. Their friendly and co-operative nature was really an inspiring one. I enjoying working &playing with them. Their experience here was my experience with them.
Tenzin Minkey VIII:- The water project which was organizer by the AKIS Student was much help to us .With the experience of project ,we enjoyed a lot with them.The project has made clean ,pure drinking water available to us .So on that context we would like to thanks them from core of my heart .
Karma Dorjee VIII: - It was very nice to meet the students from Qatar and teach how to dig .They did a splendid job by helping to dig for the reservoir .The water from the water fall is very cold like the water from the Himalayas.
Sangey Rinchen VIII:-I had a great pleasure working with them for a few days .It was beyond my expectation that some of them could dig so well. The project has been completed and we are enjoying drinking the water .Its so cold and fresh. Lastly I being obliged to them would like to thanks them from the bottom of my heart.
Pasang Lhamo Sherpa VIII:-Thank you very much for the water project. From this project we learnt a lot of things .The water from the tap is fresh and natural .The water project has helped us while we were thirsty. Now days while going to school and after returning from school I always go to fill the water from the tap .Its just so clean and pure .Once again thank you very much.
Tashi Tsering Bista VIII:-I had a wonderful experience working with the AL-KHOR students .They were friendly and gentle.We had a great day together digging and learning about each other .We were great team together too. Digging and playing basketball and cricket with them was a great fun. Due t their help we have been successful in our water project and we have fresh water to drink.
Lhakpa Dendi Sherpa VIII:-happy to write some of my opinion about the student of Al-Khor International School. It was enjoyable and fun to work with them. As a student, some of them don’t know how to dog. Anyway they were very hardworking. It makes us to work with forever.Lastly the water is very fresh and clean .I would like to thank all the projectors on the behalf of Kailash hostel.
Sonam Tsering Gurung VIII:-This water project has helped not only the children but also the villagers .It was a great work .Thank you very much on behalf of villagers and children.
Tashi Tsering Gurung VII:-It was very nice to meet and working with those guys. We all enjoyed digging so much and mostly the digging group who really did a great fun while working. Especially some of them were so funny that I could not imagined that my 5 days working with them past away so fast .Now, in our hostel we have natural water which is very pure and clean .Now a days I usually drink more than 2 liter
Choegyal Lama VIII:-We all hope to see those guys once again and work together like time .We really enjoyed working with them and would like to thanks to all of them for their contribution in the water project. I got much experienced on digging .I really missed the day playing basketball with them.
Sonam Choekyi VII: - The water project done by the AKIS schoolhas made our kailash family healthy. I am hearty thankful to them. Working with AKIS students and chatting with them, I really enyed it.At last they were extremely nice guys. Thank You!
Soban Rokaya VII:-First of all thank you for your kind help and support that you have for our kailash Hostel .Now we have clean and frees water for drinking .We learnt some technical from you .We enjoyed playing basketball .In break & after Lunch. I was enjoining a lot which playing basketball and digging with the volunteers. We have lot of fun with you while playing.
Tenzin Sonam VII:-We enjoyed a lot working with the AKIS student .They were very friendly to us .We learnt a lot about mosaic art .The water is very clear and pure to drink as well. So, in this regard on the behalf of kailash Hostel I would like to extend my thanks to them.
Sena Lama VII:-It was a great moment spending with them.We made friend with them, the Sir Mark who thought us the art craft was a wonderful and we learnt a lot from him .the student who came along with him were also nice. The water project was simply wonderful. The water we drink now is really good and fresh .So, I would like to extend my Thanks.
Zimpa Sangmo VII:-We are extremely thankful to the AKIS for providing us with pure water. I had great time chatting, playing with all of them. I also got to know a lot on water and also learn a lot about mosaic art .I am extremely graetful for their support.
Lhakpa Tsering Gurung VII: - We enjoyed very much at that time .It was before losar holiday .We digged the ground and joined pipe for pure drinking water .They ere many volunteers .we also enjoyed by playing basketball and good lunch.
Tsering Dolker Ghale VI: - We felt very nice to meet the student of AKIS.They were a very good players .The water was very sweet and pure .We feel like we are in Himalayas drinking water. We made friends too. We also studied some sign language from students of Nepal Child Welfare Foundation (NCWF).we feel very happy that we know some of the sign language too.
Dolker Lama VII:-The art project which was organized by a NCWF group was excellent .Firstly they shown us the picture that they have made with other students .Their topic of picture was “Mosiac”.They teach us how to make picture with a piece of marble and at the same time we made many friend with this students. From them I gain a lot of knowledge and we share our feeling with AKIS students .They are very good and friendly to us.
Lhakpa Tsering Gurung VII:-There were five deaf who helped us to do craft. The craft were very difficult but very interesting .Marvels were to be cutten and stricken by fevicol on some thing .The deaf were very talented.
Tenzin Minkyi VIII:-I had great fun, helping with or involving myself in mosaic art, organize by NCWF.I gained much knowledge on the art and liked it too. I‘ll surely cherish my moment with all the members of the art group.
